About the Program
The School of Education trains future teachers, counselors, school psychologists and K-12 leaders. W&M is constantly working to create new knowledge in the fields of educational theory, practice and policy. Meaningful field experiences provide the opportunity to get out in the workplace and impact the lives of students, families and communities before graduation.
What Makes Us Different

Earn a degree accredited by the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation or take teacher preparation programs approved by the Virginia Department of Education.

Apply to be a Noyce Scholar if you want to teach math or science to grades K-12. This scholarship can help you earn your certification.

Outcomes
Graduates of W&M's teacher education programs are highly sought by school districts throughout the country and our job placement rate is nearly 100%. But whether or not you choose to make an impact as a teacher, you will have countless job opportunities. Many of our graduates work for non-profit organizations such as the Peace Corps, Amnesty International, UNICEF and other charitable organizations. Alumni have used the skills and experiences gained at W&M to pursue careers in curriculum development, school leadership and policy advocacy work.
Many W&M graduates apply to the School of Education graduate programs in counseling or school psychology, teacher education and higher education administration.
